What if the thing you’ve been asking God to remove… is the very place He’s already been

blessing you?
Have you ever prayed desperately for something—pleading, holding on, hoping God would move a certain way—only to discover later that He had it under control the whole time?
And somehow… it worked out differently than you expected, but better than you could have planned.
We’ve all seen those who think following Jesus should feel like a life of constant highs. Favor, ease, and protection so steady that it almost seems like hardship has no place in the picture. It’s appealing, but it’s not a realistic story.
Because most of us also realize that real life doesn’t look like that.
At some point, we all walk through something we didn’t choose. And in those moments, trusting God in hard times doesn’t always come naturally.
It’s easy to assume something has gone wrong—that we’ve missed something that God wants from us, or He’s stepped back.
But what if that’s not true? What if God isn’t absent in the hard places…What if He’s quietly at work in them?
The Expectation We Didn’t Realize We Had: Why God Allows Suffering
Somewhere along the way, we picked up the idea that blessing means ease.
That if God is “with us,” life should feel smooth, clear, and mostly pain-free.
But Jesus never promised that.
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
He didn’t say we’d avoid the hard. He said we wouldn’t face it alone.
And when you look at Scripture, you start to understand more clearly why God allows suffering and how it connects to God’s purpose.

Some of the deepest blessings didn’t happen instead of suffering…They happened through it.
Job didn’t just get restored—he came to know God more deeply than before
Paul didn’t just endure hardship—he discovered joy that wasn’t tied to his circumstances
Even Jesus, through much suffering, brought redemption to the world
That doesn’t make pain good. But it does mean it’s not empty or meaningless.
And here’s something we don’t always consider:
What if constantly trying to avoid suffering is actually keeping our faith from growing?

When God Feels Quiet: Trusting God in Difficult Seasons
Let’s be honest—this is where it gets hard.
Because when you’re in the middle of it, it doesn’t feel like a blessing.
Our suffering can feel like silence.
Prayers go up. Answers don’t seem to come down sometimes. You look for meaning… and all you see is the struggle.
I’ve had seasons where I kept waiting for something to shift—for clarity, for relief, for a quick way out. And patience isn’t typically my strong suit, so it can be a struggle for sure.
But instead of changing my situation right away, God started changing something in me. I’ve learned that this is often where growing faith through trials really begins.
Often the blessings can come, not loudly and not quickly, but steadily. What we need to remember is that silence doesn’t mean God isn’t working.

Sometimes it just means the work is happening deeper than we can see—like roots growing in the dark, stretching down before anything new breaks through the surface.
The Blessings We Don’t Always Recognize: Finding Blessings in Hard Times
We tend to think of blessings as obvious, visible, and immediate.
But in hard seasons, they often look different. Quieter and sometimes slower. Easy to miss if we’re only looking for a way out instead of finding blessings in hard times.
Here are a few that show up more often than we realize:
A stronger, steadier faith Not the kind that depends on everything going right—but the kind that grows through trials and holds on when it doesn’t.
A shift in what actually matters Hard seasons have a way of clearing out the noise. Things that once felt urgent lose their grip. What’s eternal starts to come into focus.
A deeper connection with God There’s a closeness that forms when He’s all you have left to lean on. This is where real faith in difficult seasons is built.
A softer heart for others Pain changes how you see people. You listen differently. You show up differently. You love differently.
These aren’t loud or particularly obvious blessings. But they’re lasting ones we need to look for.
The Precious Gift: God’s Presence in Hard Times
We often think the goal is to get back to the mountaintop as fast as possible.
But Scripture doesn’t say, “I will fear no evil because You took me around the valley.”
It says, “for You are with me.”

That’s the blessing we don’t always expect. Not immediate escape. Not instant answers. But presence. There’s a kind of closeness with God that only forms in the valley.
On the mountaintop, you see His goodness. In the valley you experience it!
And sometimes, the greatest blessing isn’t that the situation changes…It’s that you realize you’re not alone in it.
Learning to Look for It: God Working All Things for Good
This doesn’t mean we pretend things aren’t hard. And it doesn’t mean we stop praying for a breakthrough.
But maybe we also start asking a different question alongside it: “God, where are You blessing me right now—even here?” Because often, the blessing isn’t in the outcome yet.
It’s in what’s being built, what’s being revealed, and what’s quietly taking root.
This is part of God working all things for good, even when we don’t understand it yet.
"And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast" (1 Peter 5:10).
That means this season isn’t wasted. It’s doing something in us. And when we are strengthened or restored, we have the ability to help those who are going through the storm.
Let’s Talk About It
Where have you only been looking for an escape? What might change if you started looking for God’s presence there too?
What’s one unexpected good that’s come out of a hard season? Even something small?
Where is the “exit”? What’s the hardest thing you’re facing right now? Is your main prayer “God, take this away” or “God, help me stand”?
Who can you sit with right now? Not to fix—but just to be present, the way God is with you.
One Last Thought
If God really does work all things together for good (Romans 8:28)…Then even the hard parts of our stories aren’t empty. They may be the very places where the deepest, quietest, most lasting blessings are growing. 🌱✨
Maybe it won’t unfold the way you’re asking.Maybe the answer won’t look like what you pictured.
But one day, you might look back and realize…

God had it under control the whole time.
